Finished vehicle logistics: double-deck car carrier wagons available for (electric) SUVs up to 3.2 tonnes

Our solution for the challenges in your finished vehicle logistics

Automotive logistics companies and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) are facing serious challenges in the coming years, as the logistics of finished vehicles is becoming increasingly difficult. Transport by truck is being slowed down by the worsening shortage of drivers. Transport by rail is therefore the obvious – and more sustainable – alternative. However, the decision to carry out "Finished Vehicle Logistics" (FVL) by double-deck car carrier wagons is hampered by the fact that at least a third of the 18,000 double-deck car carrier wagons in Europe are unsuitable for transporting heavy finished vehicles. Transporting a large, fully electric SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) with a single weight of around three tonnes is often not feasible in a double-deck car carrier wagon without sacrificing the load factor.

The FVL flexibility you need – throughout Europe

TRANSWAGGON is currently expanding its fleet of double-deck car carrier wagons for finished vehicle logistics. We are manufacturing hundreds of open double-deck car carrier wagons at one of the largest wagon manufacturers in the European rail freight transport. These Laaers 560.2 wagons offer the flexibility you so urgently require for your finished vehicle logistics, as these modern car carrier wagons are specially designed for the transport of even large and heavy finished vehicles weighing up to 3.2 tonnes. They allow stepless adjustment of the upper loading level and are suitable for use on standard-gauge routes throughout Europe: for example in Turkey and South-East Europe or on the standard-gauge route to Barcelona.

Three key problems of conventional double-deck car carrier wagons in finished vehicle logistics

Problem 1: Excessive wheel pressure on the upper loading level

The trend towards large and heavy SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicle) continues unabated. At the same time, the batteries in fully electric vehicles result in a very high vehicle weight. This leads to higher wheel pressures, which can be especially problematic on the upper loading level of a double-deck car carrier wagon. This is because the wheel pressure increases to a level for which many older car transport wagons are no longer designed.
The solution:
Our modern automotive double-deck car carrier wagons are designed for up to 800 kg per wheel (3.2-tonne vehicle weight), which means the loading coefficient on the upper loading level is less restricted.

Problem 2: Staff safety railing is essential

Health and safety regulations make no exception: even if very wide vehicles are loaded onto the upper level of a double-deck car carrier wagon, a foldable staff safety railing must be used.
The solution:
Our modern automotive double-deck car carrier wagons are equipped with a foldable staff safety railing on the upper loading level which gives the drivers sufficient space even when loading the vehicles.

Problem 3: Flaps unsuitable for wide tyres

The rims of modern vehicles are increasing in both diameter and width. The problem is that the flaps of conventional double-deck car carrier wagons are often too narrow for the associated wide tyres.
The solution:
Our modern automotive double-deck car carrier wagons are equipped with flaps that can still be used without any problems even if the finished vehicle has very wide rims and therefore also wide tyres.
